In spite of being recognized as SanMiguel’s official Ballet Folklorico the local government has no funding for the Ballet.

Since the Ballet does not have its own space, the families and dancers help pay for rehearsal space, usually at the Sindicato a well located community center. “Amigos” also helps.

The Ballet does not own the costumes, and each family is responsible for making or purchasing the elaborate costumes required for each dance. Some dancers have as many as 8 or more different outfits.

What We Need

What We Need

“Amigos” helps those who cannot afford a costume or the special shoes. The “maestros” are basically volunteers, but “Amigos” helps pay for guest teachers who are invited to come and bring their experience and skills to teach a new dance. Choreographers from Queretaro, Mexico City and Dolores who have been performers with the National Ballet have taught traditional choreographies and prepared the Ballet for special events.

The Ballet is often invited to perform in some of the poorer communities around San Miguel where they bring beauty and joy to the residents.  We need to pay for transportation, and “Amigos” does that.

If you would like to help preserve one of Mexico’s more beautiful traditions and help the families and the dancers, please make a donation to:
